The race of the 25 - Ladies - Ofterschwang

Last weekend of World Cup before the finals in Lenzerheide.
Both ladies and men will close the season with technical disciplines, slalom and giant-slalom.
Even though there's the usual plague of late-winter warmth resulting in tremendous snow conditions.

Last places for the finals are to be assigned in these events.
Little explanation of the way to qualify for the finals:

  • being top 25 of the discipline standing (top25 of downhill, top25 of slalom, and so on...)
  • having 500 or more Overall points
  • being discipline world champion or world junior champion
  • super-combined world champion can chose to run one between slalom and downhill, since there's no super-combined at the finals
  • there are no replacements in case one qualified athlete is missing or World champions is into the 25
Giant-Slalom
Ladies weekend in Ofterschwang starts with the Giant-Slalom, where the Globe is already in Maze's hand, also no other pressure for the Overall standing, while she's currently runner-up in Slalom's standing 33 points behind the baby talented Shiffrin.
World Cup champion is Tessa Worley, her qualification was never in danger though.
World Junior Champion is with surprise Lisa-Maria Zeller from Austria: no World Cup start for her who has yet to record a podium also in European Cup (4th place in a super-combined, 10th position in a Super-G one year ago her best results).

These, with probabilities, are the athetes involved in the clash for a spot in the finals.

I've been generous including so many athletes, cutting off after Ruiz-Castillo.
Actually these are second tier athletes which fight on very few points and a 30 points comeback seems very unlikely even though Ruiz-Castillo looks in great shape.
Allegedly the real clash will involve Fanchini, Pietilae-Holmner and Marmottan, tied at 68 points, one of them will stay home.
Pietilae-Holmner has been a top competitor in GS years ago, she's still struggling after an injury suffered last year, but her average results are much better than this ranking and she should comfortably made it to the finals.
Fanchini is a great talent gone lost with many injuries, GS isn't her best discipline but she's in great shape following her downhill's silver medal at the World Championships.
Marmottan has had a bad season and she's only got to the finish line only three times, once reaching 7th place, which made the most part of her points.
Barioz has been constant enough and her rank should hold.
Bertrand is practising hard racing many non-World Cup races but she doesn't seem to have the drill to make a top 10 placement and gain the spot for the finals.

Slalom
Slalom on Sunday should be more funny as there's also the run for the Cup, meaning there will be the blood-thirsty Maze.
Shiffrin is also World Champion, while the young (18 years old) swedish Magdalena Fjaellstroem is World Junior Champion, she's got several World Cup starts but never qualified for the second run.

Also here I've been generous.
Here's to notice how funny things are considering Schild has only 1 useful result (2nd place in Aspen) and she's tied in last spot with Phelan who's always seen the finish line (7/7 completed slaloms so far), Schild won't race this one anyway, she's off for the rest of the season.
Also here is hard to see a great result from those currently off the cut, though.
Mougel needs a 16th place to ties Phelan for the 25th spot, hard for her but not enough to make the effort impossible, Mougel in fact has only a 5th and a 13th place, while didn't finish the rest of the slaloms.
Costazza, Barthet, Noens, and Stiegler have been on constant average placements with more finished races, hard to think any of them able to reach a peak result.
